Shield Guide, LLC ("Shield Guide," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Shield Guide Homeowner App (available at shieldguide.org and on mobile platforms).

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to provide our services:

Account information: Your email address and password (stored as a secure hash).
Financial and housing information: Loan type, payment status, income, expenses, and other details you choose to enter to generate your preparation plan.
Activity logs: Notes and activities you log within the app.
Device information: Basic technical data such as app version and device type, used solely to maintain app functionality.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

Generate your personalized foreclosure preparation plan.
Allow you to securely share your information with a housing counselor of your choosing via a share code.
Maintain and improve app functionality.
Send account-related communications (e.g., email verification, password reset).

3. How We Protect Your Information

We take data security seriously:

All sensitive data is encrypted using AES-256-GCM encryption.
Backups use zero-knowledge encryption — we cannot access your backup data.
Passwords are never stored in plain text.
All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS.
Access tokens expire after 15 minutes; refresh tokens are hashed in our database.

4. We Never Sell Your Data

Shield Guide does not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Ever.

5. Share Codes

If you choose to connect with a housing counselor through Shield Guide, you will generate a share code. Sharing this code with a counselor gives them read access to the information you have entered. You control this process entirely — we do not automatically share your information with anyone.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following trusted third-party services to operate the app:

Resend — for sending transactional emails (e.g., verification codes).
Railway — for secure cloud hosting of our backend and database.

These services are used solely to operate Shield Guide and are not permitted to use your data for any other purpose.

7. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at support@shieldguide.org. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible.

8. Children's Privacy

Shield Guide is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
